Dear Friend of St. Jude,

In Sunday’s first reading, God visits Abraham and Sarah and blesses them with the promise of a child. And in the Gospel reading, Luke gives us the account of Jesus visiting His friends Martha and Mary and giving them a lesson in what is truly essential in their relationship.

Take a look at the varied responses when the people of Sunday’s readings encounter God. Abraham was seated when he saw three men before his house. He gets up to offer his hospitality—bowing, running around, and finally standing by them as God takes the center stage and dines at his house. Martha runs around worried about many things while Mary is seated at the feet of Jesus. When God walks into our lives, how do we respond to Him?

We pray together: St. Jude, free me from needless concerns and preoccupations that I may give God my undivided love and attention.

Yours in prayer,
