One of the most significant, and perhaps most obvious, paths to contentment in faith is through prayer.
We turn to prayer daily to stay grounded in God, to focus on gratitude for blessings and for life itself. We turn to prayer as well for hope, particularly in times of trouble.
In these challenging times, contentment feels distant from the heart. But for those who know the way of devotion to St. Jude, hope is made real through prayer to this saint, who promises hope for the hopeless. Simple prayers, like “St. Jude, pray for us,” allow us to quiet our racing minds and prevent our fears from overwhelming us. There is peace here, and a special kind of contentment in knowing that whatever weighs us down is given over to the power of God’s mercy.
Devotion to St. Jude is like having a mentor in faith. He is there to encourage understanding, pray with and for devotees, and offer help and comfort through life’s ups and downs. God draws us to Him in so many ways, including through spiritual practices such as devotional prayer. He asks us to find contentment, but He does so while giving us the prayerful tools we need to get there.
Through devotion, prayer, and hope, we find many moments to follow Jesus’ command that we “Be not afraid.” As with gratitude, which expands when it becomes the primary focus instead of what is missing, hope expands when it becomes the primary focus over fear. That focus is enlivened by devotion to St. Jude, who deeply desires to help us find contentment through the many prayers, simple and in-depth, that invoke hope and, ultimately, the love of God.
