While we all strive to find healthy, restful time in our lives, it isn’t easy. The commitments of our days take priority, and in the swirl of it all, we discover we have not slowed down nearly enough.
Yet devotees of St. Jude have a natural invitation to rest that we need to tap into and develop. Because the strength and hope of St. Jude is alive and in focus in devotion, a spiritual trust is built that enables making rest a natural part of life, promoting strength of mind, body, and spirit.
St. Jude empowers all to give burdens over to God through him, and to allow intercessory prayer to provide its fruits of hope and peace. The same can be said for finding spiritual rest with St. Jude, if his pathway to God is followed even further. The act of calling to mind special intentions is, in and of itself, quieting and restful.
Focus is zeroed in on others, who have special and often difficult needs. In this act of St. Jude prayer, those people and their needs are lifted from the heart, an unburdening. Worry is replaced with rest, with the calm that comes from knowing we are doing the best for ourselves and others by answering the call to prayer. Our troubles don’t simply cease, of course, but with the internal renewal that comes from giving all over to God, they are better managed and accepted, with faith.
The gratitude we express to St. Jude is equally encouraging of a habit of spiritual rest. Anytime a gift, a blessing, is given, profound gratitude wants and needs to be known. There is again the relief of knowing we have done well by ourselves and others when our “thank you” is made known. In this expression, in this relief, there is also a special form of calm that contributes to the rest we seek and need.
